Rahul Gandhi, Stalin dialled Supriya Sule, want Sharad Pawar to stay party chief, say NCP leaders | India News – Times of India

NASHIK: Congress member Rahul Gandhi and Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin called up NCP MP Supriya Sule and asked her to prevail upon her father, Sharad Pawar, to withdraw his resignation as party chief, two senior NCP members told TOI on Wednesday. Both Rahul and Stalin called up Sule hours after Pawar announced his resignation on Tuesday.
As per NCP members who are part of the panel formed to discuss the succession plan, Rahul and Stalin wanted to know from Sule about Pawar’s sudden move to relinquish the party president’s post. Sule was not available for her comments.
One of the NCP members said, “Both Rahul and Stalin sought to know from Sule the reason leading to Pawar’s decision. They were of the opinion that Pawar should rethink his decision.” The other NCP member said, “Leaders from other parties, which share similar ideologies with NCP, want Pawar to continue as party chief at least till next year’s Lok Sabha polls.”
PC Chacko, ex-Congress leader from Kerala who joined NCP last year, told TOI, “Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan had called me inquiring about Pawar’s decision. It has evoked reactions from leaders of various non-BJP parties. They don’t want Pawar to quit.” Chacko, who met Pawar on Wednesday, said, “I urged him to reconsider his decision.”
